Because Mac OS 9 contained a 68K emulator, Classic would have been able to run some 68K applications, as well as PowerPC ones.įrom a user standpoint, it was something like running Mac OS X / Power PC programs in Rosetta (under Snow Leopard), or running Windows in a virtual machine. ![]() ![]() It doesn't exist in any Intel version of Mac OS X. The Classic environment was for running applications that predated Mac OS X, on select PowerPC computers that had Mac OS X. What I do not know or understand is whether that is still possible with Catalina, and if so, where do I get it for download, and further, what does it buy me to have the Classic OS environment available? In my ever-inquisitive research and reading, I cam across a Font Article that eludes to the fact that Classic MacOS (9) can be installed an run side by side with OSX. ![]()
